About

– Janette Beckman

"My task is to make them at ease enough to show me who they really are"

Art Design Music takes a deep dive into the world of visual artists and the iconic work they’ve made for many of the world’s most legendary musicians/bands. Graphic designer/Illustrator Jud Haynes leads conversations with photographers, music video directors, graphic designers, art directors, and illustrators who have dedicated their lives to creating the look of music.

If you’ve ever stared into an album cover while listening to the music, felt the need to take home a poster to commemorate a concert, or been obsessed with re-watching a favourite music video, then you’re one of us –

Season One hits the ground running featuring adventures in art and design for AC/DC, Sex Pistols, Salt n Pepa, Bruce Springsteen, Prince, The Clash, Blondie, Cheap Trick, LL Cool J, NWA, St. Vincent, Fugazi, Grateful Dead, Slayer, and Beastie Boys, among many others.

We take verbal tours of Jim Henson Studios; underground women’s fight clubs; street gangs of LA; Andy Warhol; Grafitti Art; Black Lives Matter; and so much more.

Art Design Music is recorded and produced in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. We respectfully acknowledge the territory in which we work as the ancestral homelands of the Mi’kmaq and Beothuk. We also recognize the Inuit of Nunatsiavut, the Inuit of NunatuKavut, and the Innu of Nitassinan, as the original people of Labrador.

Jud Haynes

Jud Haynes

host
Jud has been waiting for someone to make this podcast for years – when no one did he decided he'd give it a shot. Jud is a graphic designer, illustrator, and musician... not a broadcaster.

Please be kind, he promises to get better at this whole podcasting thing.

In the meantime, check out his art at design at judhaynes.com and on instagram @mightypops

Loel Campbell

Loel Campbell

beats
Loel is best known as the drummer from Wintersleep, but he's also a producer, songwriter, studio engineer and all around great guy (according to Jud).

Jud and Loel have been friends for nearly 20 years. They've worked together on many projects, a band, an indie record label, art for numerous records and releases, but never a podcast. Loel is behind the podcast's beats. Find him online at loelcampbell.com and @loelcampbell on Instagram
